1. Face-to-face Character of the Visa Application

Pursuant to the new Regulation, the applicant must apply for a visa to the Immigration Services, Embassies, Consulates of Mozambique and Crossing Posts, in a specific form, duly filled in and signed by the applicant.

Only in exceptional cases, the physical presence of the visa applicant may be waived.

The cases that constitute the EXCEPTION, at the Embassy, in Lisbon, are as follows:

a) Senior Managers of Companies (Presidents, Administrators, Directors and their deputies);
b) Pregnant Women or Pregnant Women (their representative must have a letter confirming that status issued by a doctor;
c) Senior Citizens (over 60 years old);
d) Children under ten (10) years of age;
e) People with Proven Physical Disability.

Applications for visas for the categories mentioned in paragraph a) must be made at the Embassy, by an employee of the company, duly accredited for this purpose.

For the categories mentioned in sub-paragraphs b) to e), visa applications may be made by another person with powers of representation recognized by the Notary Public.

 

2. Previous Consultation

Under the terms of the Regulation in force, the granting of visas by Embassies and Consulates requires prior consultation with the Immigration Services.

 

3. General conditions/requirements for granting a visa

Pursuant to the Regulation in force, the minimum period of validity of the passport or similar document, for the granting of the entry visa in Mozambique, is extended from three (3) to six (6) months, with the following requirements:

(i) Offer livelihood guarantees during your stay in Mozambique;
(ii) Pay the corresponding visa fee;
(iii) Complete the form fully and properly;
(iv) Two photographs, type pass.

 

4. Rejection of the Visa application

Under current legislation on the entry, stay and exit of foreigners in Mozambique, the application for an entry visa is refused in the following situations:

a) The applicant is prohibited from entering the Republic of Mozambique;
b) The applicant has been expelled or declared Persona Non Grata in the Republic of Mozambique;
c) The applicant is engaged in activities that, when carried out in the Republic of Mozambique, entail expulsion;
d) The applicant is sufficiently informed that it may cause a change in public order and security or other serious inconveniences, whether in the internal order, or in the regional or international order;
e) If the applicant is a vagrant, beggar, does not have means of subsistence, that is, judged in a position not to raise them;
f) If the applicant has been convicted of crimes corresponding to a greater penalty;
g) If the applicant is contacted by authorities of other countries, unless prior authorization from the competent authority;
h) If the applicant has been fined on previous occasions for violating immigration laws and has not paid the respective fine;
i) The applicant does not present reasons that justify the granting of the visa;
j) The applicant has incompletely completed the visa application form.

The Embassy is not obliged to reveal to the applicant the reasons for the refusal of the visa application.

The denial of the visa application does not entitle the applicant to a refund of the amount paid.

 

5. Visa Cancellation

The entry visa to Mozambique that has already been issued may be canceled under the following circumstances:

a) When the visa holder does not or has failed to meet the conditions and objectives for which the visa was granted;
b) When the visa has been issued based on the provision of false declarations, use of fraudulent means or through invoking reasons other than those that led the holder to enter Mozambique;
c) When the reasons that determined its granting have ceased;
d) When an expulsion measure has been applied to the holder, while the ban on entry into Mozambique is still in force.

It is competent to cancel the visa already issued, the National Migration Service, the Provincial Migration Service or the Crossing Post in Mozambique.

The cancellation of the visa already issued is communicated to the Embassies and Consulates of the Republic of Mozambique abroad, as well as to the Crossing Posts in Mozambique.

 

6. Visa Processing Time

  • The normal visa is processed in a maximum time of ten (10) working days.
